Special Needs Applications - Key Features and Benefits
Cognitive:
- Provides a very empowering exercise for children choosing something of their own to examine and study.
- Allows children to choose what they look at and at what magnification level resulting in controlling a situation and increasing self confidence.
- Examining items under the microscope provides children with extensive practice in sequential thought as well as problem solving.
Communicative:
- Allows a unique opportunity for children to see up close what they “know”, such as hair or food pieces and provides children with opportunities to describe, in elaborate detail, what they see and how it is different than the known.
- Communication takes place when deciding what to examine. This exercise in cognitive processing assists in organizing thoughts and communicating those thoughts in an organized manner.
- Size of the unit, position of the screen and the light provides children with a focal point.
- Encourages conversation for children to formulate questions and verbally ask in a volume others can hear.
Physical:
- The display is large and allows children to remain sitting in an upright position, rather than looking down into the microscope. This assists in maintaining trunk and head control for children with physical limitations who may not be able to get back to a proper posture independently.
Sensory:
- Large display helps visually impaired children see magnified fine details of certain objects.
